The Independence Day
Independence is hundred times better than slavery. India won freedom on 15th August, 1947. It is a red letter day in our history. The Independence Day is celebrated every year throughout India. This year, we celebrated this day with great pomp and show. Great preparations were made a day before the function. The program was chalked out in advance. Portraits of our great leaders were hung on the walls of the hall. Their famous sayings were displayed in the college library. We went to college at 7 a.m. on the Independence Day. We stood in circular rows in the playground. Our Principle unfurled the flag. He made a speech. In his speech he told us about the importance of the Independence Day. He reminded us of our duties and rights. He also told us that a great number of people had laid down their lives for the sake of freedom. The students sang patriotic songs. A one –act play was also staged. It was a patriotic play. Then a volleyball match was played between the staff and the students. The students won the match. In the end, prizes were given away to the winners. We were full of high hopes. We vowed to lead our country on to the path of progress. True independence means service of the country. The need of the hour is to preserve this hard-won freedom.
